Pah! Seems Paul McCartney forgot to invite me again!

It must be nice to be able to have an assistant when taking photographs (I’ve never had one!). Joe McNally had at least two during his recent training day in London. Here’s some tips on how to be a good assistant. We all have to start somewhere!

Here’s a stunning 45 GigaPixel image of Dubai.  See more GigaPixel images here.

PS. There’s an even bigger image of Paris around somewhere but can’t find it at the moment.

For the photographer who has everything – drink your coffee from a lens mug. Purchase here.

Here’s a great tutorial which shows you how to do a whole heap of stuff plus some tips on downloading resources from the Internet.

And this is the website where it came from – lots of tutorials!

I’m a Kelby Training subscriber and, at US$200 a year, you might think wow – that’s expensive but, as Scott Kelby points out in this video on his blog, that’s around US$1 per class and the classes are, in my view, nothing short of excellent and so, for US$200,  you do get tremendous value for money.  I’m currently working my way through Rich Harrington’s classes. Excellent classes if you’re trying to move from still to video. He’s the man!

So, take a look at Scott’s video and then I would suggest taking a look at the Kelby Training site here.

And……..if I do have a problem with Kelby Training….it’s keeping up with all the new classes!!  They arrive thick and fast on a weekly basis.

PS. Scott Kelby is coming to London in October….still waiting for details to be published on the Kelby Training Site.….watch this space for details.

ANTS in my scanner > a five years time-lapse! from françois vautier on Vimeo.

The first question has to be….why would you want to put ants in your scanner?  Well, I can’t come up with a good answer to the question but it is an interesting concept and amazing what ants can do when they are living in your scanner. Very surprised the scanner lasted 5 years!

Author’s Notes:

I installed an ant colony inside my scanner five years ago.
I scanned the nest each week.

music : Franks – Infected Mushroom.

il y a cinq ans j’ai installé une fourmilière dans mon vieux scanner. ce qui m’a permis de scanner en très haute définition ce microcosme (animal, végétal et minéral) en permanente évolution.

Here’s something to add to the ‘must have’ list if you’re a Mac user.

We’ve been following (here) the mystery of the newly discovered images that were, it was claimed, taken by Ansel Adams.  Well, here’s an update.  Apparently the images were not done by Ansel Adams. They were taken by Uncle Earl! Here for details.

Many more of us are watching video content on the web and, increasingly, people are trying to watch video content on mobile devices. And, many of us are DEEPLY FRUSTRATED by videos when they stall during play (the spinning beach ball, egg timer or cogs whizzing around on screen as the video tries to catch up). Well, here’s the reason why we’re all pulling our hair out.

This is the exhibition for me. Last year’s exhibition but in the worst possible taste!

This looks very interesting and making an accurate time lapse video of buildings over the years would be possible.

More on this over on John Nack’s site here and also here at Wired Magazine’s site.

Not the kind of museum we’re used to perhaps but the Adobe Museum of Digital Media sounds like it might be interesting. Here for details.

Those of us who remember film will be saddened to hear the news – here – that the last roll of Kodachrome has been processed………the end of an era.

Sometime it is just plain fun to break all the rules………….this image achieved by switching all the corrective settings off in Photomatix Pro.

Staggering numbers, excellent images……….makes you think…..

Imagine leaving your shutter open for FOUR months……..that’s what happened here.
